Frank Akankwasa

Birding Specialist

Frank has a background in water engineering where he worked for some years. One day, his boss posted him to a project where they worked on a safari lodge next to Bwindi forest. While working at this lodge, he was encouraged to visit the forest in his free time. He saw gorillas for the first time which fascinated him. He was soon introduced to birds which hooked him with their sounds, colors, and different shapes.

Frank enjoys nature, especially birds. He will stay out in the savannah and forest looking for and watching birds over long periods. This passion was turned into a job after attending several bird guide’s training in Lake Mburo National Park, Kibale Forest, and Queen Elizabeth National Park. He is a member of the Uganda Safari Guides Association and Uganda Bird Guides.

His favorite destination is Bwindi forest where he often goes to search for the black Bee eaters. His highlight was seeing the Fox’s weaver, the only bird endemic to Uganda in the Pian Upe game reserve.

He leads our birding safaris in Uganda and Rwanda.
