Kahuzi-Biega national park

Kahuzi-Biega national park is located in the south east of DR Congo which covers an area of about 6000km2. Mt Kahuzi lies at 3308 m and Biega at 2790m. Senkwekwe Centre – Gorilla Orphanage

The orphanage was named after the dominant silverback of the Rugendo groups who was murdered alongside 3 of his family members – Senkwekwe. The center is home to orphaned mountain gorillas located in Rumangabo at the Virunga national park headquarters. Most of the gorillas at the centre were found after their mothers were murdered, some were caught in poachers snares. Lwiro chimpanzee sanctuary

The Lwiro Chimpanzee Sanctuary was created in 2002 to rehabilitate chimpanzees that had been orphaned by illegal hunting for wildlife pet trade and on some occasions for bush meat. The center is home to over 92 chimpanzees and 108 monkeys of 13 different species of monkeys.
