18 Days Uganda Culture and Wildlife Safari

This 18 days Uganda cultural and wildlife safari will give you an opportunity to experience the local culture, scenery, nature and wildlife of Uganda. The safari will take you to the source of R.Nile in Jinja and the fascinating Sipi falls. You will continue to Moroto where you will have an opportunity to interact with the Karamajong culture. From here you will proceed to Kidepo national park with vast wildlife and continue to Murchison falls national park well known for its thunderous waterfalls. You will visit the Tooro Kingdom in western Uganda after which you will visit Queen Elizabeth NP, Lake Bunyonyi  and end withvisit to Lake Mburo national park.

Day 1: Arrival to Uganda

You start your 18 Day safari with your arrival at Entebbe International Airport where you will be welcomed by a Kagera Safaris representative. After this you will be transferred to your hotel for overnight.

Day 2: Transfer to Sipi Falls via Jinja

Today start your tour with a stop at Sezibwa falls, a Buganda cultural site rich with birds, folktales and great scenary. On arrival we shall be met by a resident tour guide who will lead us explaining the different sites and legends surrounding.

From here you proceed to Jinja through beautiful landscapes of sugar and tea plantations, rain forests. On arrival you will take a relaxing boat boat ride on River Nile as it starts exiting Lake Victoria. 

After the boat ride, proceed to Sipi falls.

Day 3: Hike to Sipi falls and Coffee tour

Hike the amazing 3 waterfalls that come from different areas of Mt Elgon forming the Sipi falls. These were named as the most romantic waterfalls by the guide book- Lonely Planets. You are free to deep yourself in the pools of water that form at the bottom of the waterfalls.

In the afternoon you will go for a coffee tour around the area or can visit a home to have a coffee experience with the ward winning coffee that is by far the best Arabic coffee you will find elsewhere.

Day 4: Transfer to Moroto

Today you will transfer to Moroto, enjoy the beautiful landscape of Karamoja area. You will have picnic lunch somewhere before proceeding to your lodging.

Day 5: Life in a Karamajong village 

Today after breakfast, you will visit a Karamajong village and take part in the different activities of the locals. You have an opportunity to learn about their culture and lifestyle like their traditional games, beading, dance, harvesting that is very interactive.

Day 6: Transfer to  Kidepo National park

Today after your breakfast you will embark on your journey to Kidepo valley national park. Along the way as you drive you will have short stopovers for pictorial moments.

Day 7:  Game drive in Kidepo National Park

After your breakfast you will go on a morning game drive,  look out for Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Water bucks, Kobs, Cheetahs, Zebras, and also bird life. This offers an excellent opportunity for photography moments during the game drive and opportunity to watch the animals feed as they stroll in the national park.  Kidepo valley national park is the true wilderness of Africa with the largest herd of Cape Buffaloes found anywhere in Africa.

Day 8: Hike Mt Murungole

The Ik tribe are an indigenous tribe living at Mt Morungole which is borders with Kidepo valley national park. They essentially out of touch with most of the other local populations living in seclusion. Today morning after breakfast, you shall transfer to Mt Morungole and hike up to interact with the Ik tribe.

Day 9: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison falls national park is the largest park in Uganda. It is home to the famous Murchison falls that give out the thunderous noise as the River Nile goes through a narrow gauge. The drive is not very adventurous especially after you leave the Karamoja area.

Day 10: Game drive and Nile Boat Safari 

After your morning breakfast you will go on a game drive through the Northern section of Murchison Falls National park which is the largest national park in Uganda. You will look out for animals like the; elephants, lions, giraffes, water bucks, bird species, Uganda kobs and other wildlife experiences.  

In the afternoon you will go on a relaxing boat cruise on River Nile. You will look out for different animals along the shores that live in the water and those coming to drink water. The animals to look out for include elephants, hippos, crocodiles, bird species, and reptiles. Along the boat cruise you will get to watch the thunderous water falls from below.

Day 11: Transfer to Fort Portal – Tooro Kingdom

Today after breakfast, start your journey to Fort Portal town in Tooro Kingdom. Enjoy views of the beautiful scenery and nature of Uganda along the way. You will have opportunities of stopping for photograph and maybe picnic lunch.

Day 12: Visit Amabere caves and Fort Portal town tour 

Have breakfast and then visit the Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru cultural site with intriguing cultural and historical beliefs. After this experience, you will hike up Nyakasura hill together with the community guide from where you will be able to view 3 crater lakes and Rwenzori mountains.

Day 13: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

On this day you will transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. Along the way you will have an opportunity to view the amazing terraces by locals practicing farming on them.  This lake is the second deepest lake in Africa and is in kigezi that was named as “Switzerland of Africa” by Churchill.

Day 14: Boat ride and island visiting

Take a relaxing canoe ride on Lake Bunyonyi –“the place of many little birds” to some of the 29 islands. While there you will get to know some of the cultural and history of the area. 

In the afternoon you can go bird watching or hike up a steep hill to capture good scenery of the lake and islands.

Day 15: Transfer to Lake Mburo National park 

After breakfast embark on your journey to Lake Mburo national park located in the south western Uganda. You will pass through beautiful landscapes, plantations, and farms. You will have a stopover for lunch at the Igongo cultural museum to learn bit more about the Ankore culture.

Day 16: Game drive and Boat Cruise

Today morning after your breakfast you will start on your game drive in the park. While on it you will look out for animals such as zebras, buffaloes, leopards, antelopes. You may get an opportunity to view zebras for a good time.

In the afternoon you will take a boat ride on Lake Mburo.

Day 17: Transfer to Entebbe – Evening sunset cruise on Lake Victoria

This day you will start your journey to Kampala and continue to Entebbe. You will have a short stop over at the Equator monument where you will have an opportunity to take some photos and experience standing both in the northern and southern hemisphere.  

You will go for an evening sunset cruise on Lake Victoria.

Day 18:  End of your safari and Departure

Today marks the end of your 18 days safari. Depending on time of your flight back home,  you will have breakfast and later be transferred to the Airport for your flight back home.
